Our 7th annual research symposium, to be held on May 1, 2023, is open to all current EEB students, post-docs, staff, undergraduates, and faculty. This one-day event will be composed of oral presentations, poster presentations, and lightning talks which may be on completed work or work in progress.

 

Attendance

We are also limited on space at the venue this year; attendance is on a first-come first-served as well, so you are encouraged to sign up early! If you can only attend for half of the day, that's fine with us, just indicate that on your registration! There will also be an evening reception to follow.

Presentations

We are limited on time, so oral presentations and lightning talks will be on a first-come first-served basis. We will have a waiting list for both in case we have anyone drop out. If you register and we are out of space for a presentation, we will encourage you to submit a poster instead. Presentations will be judged by your peers in the EEB community and prizes will be awarded to the best presentations. Presenters of oral and poster presentations will be required to submit a maximum of 250-word abstract prior to the registration deadline and all presenters should provide a title for their presentation.

If you register to present, you do NOT need to complete an attendee registration form. All EEB members can present in one of three different categories:

• Oral presentations

  • Oral presentations will be 15 minutes in length, so plan on speaking for 12 minutes with 3 minutes for questions. We highly recommend graduate students and postdocs to present an oral presentation.

• Poster presentations

  • Poster presentations are open to all EEB members (i.e. graduate students, post-docs, and faculty). We encourage faculty to take this opportunity to create a 'lab' poster, which will inform the EEB community about all the current research in your lab. This is also a great recruiting tool - hang the poster outside your lab space to encourage undergraduates and visitors to inquire about your work and maybe even join your lab! Lab posters do not require an abstract. Feel free to submit a poster recently presented at another meeting. Posters should be in a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio.

• Lightning talks

  • Lightning talks: Each presenter will be given 5 minutes for a lightning talk. We encourage faculty and staff to present an overview of their research during this session. This is a great way to inform the EEB community about what's happening in your lab.

We also have an exciting new session on Community Engagement this year. EEB members are welcome to present a poster on a community engagement activity. We’d love to hear about community building, outreach, and DEI initiatives, both focused within EEB and in other communities. EEB members can present both a community engagement poster and a research presentation/poster. Feel free to contact Wendy (leuenbe9@msu.edu) if you have a poster you’d like to present.
